lightweight cpap

Designed from the ground up to be elegant and refined, the Z1 Auto APAP has been considered and measured from every angle to ensure it is as small and comfortable and capable as possible! The Z1 Auto is tiny so it fits easily in your hand and ultra-light at just 10 ounces. It is FAA Approved and will fit easily into any overnight bag; but it's sleek styling, modern looks, and quality materials mean that it will look great on your nightstand too.

Z1 Auto delivers a more natural breathing experience with proprietary Z-Breathe relief. Z-Breathe learns from your breathing patterns, gently raising and lowering therapy pressure to reduce the "pressure swing" caused by inhalations and exhalations during sleep. Set Z-Breathe to one of three settings: CPAP 1 for mild relief; CPAP 2 for moderate relief; or CPAP3 for maximum pressure swing relief.

whisper quiet cpap

The Z1 Auto is built for sleep so it is very quiet. In fact it's one of the quietest APAPs on the market, producing only 26 dBA on average of sound during operation.

The Z1 Auto automatically adjusts to altitudes up to 8,000 feet above sea level. It is even approved by the FAA for use on airplanes and will adjust automatically to an airplane's cabin pressure. When traveling outside the US the Z1 Auto will convert the voltage automatically so you can continue enjoying safe and comfortable sleep therapy wherever your next adventure takes you. (Plug adapter may be needed outside of North America.)

cpap battery

For nights away from fixed power the Z1 Auto's optional PowerShell with Extended Life Battery Pack provides an innovative, integrated solution, merging the machine and battery in one convenient package. The PowerShell holds one battery that will last 1-2 nights between charges; and batteries recharge using the Z1's standard power supply so there are no extra cords to worry about. For extra nights away just add additional batteries! The Z1 PowerShell can also be used as a backup power supply, automatically taking over during a power outage or blackout.

To ensure you're always receiving your prescribed sleep therapy pressure the Z1 Auto will automatically compensate for minor air leakage and mask leaks. If Z1 Auto detects an excessive air leak that could be detrimental to therapy its display screen will warn you to ensure that the leak is corrected promptly.

For people who prefer to fall asleep with therapy at lower pressure levels, the Z1 Auto's ramp comfort feature is a perfect solution. Ramp slowly increases therapy pressure over time, from 0 to 45 minutes, so you can breathe naturally as you fall asleep.

The Z1 Auto's large, backlit LCD display provides information on your current pressure setting, ramp time, power status, and more. With the Z1 Auto you can always check your current therapy status, but don't worry the display has an auto-off function! When it's not needed the backlight turns off automatically so it won't keep you up as you drift off to sleep!

If you prefer added humidification when using sleep therapy, the Z1 Auto comes complete with a HME Waterless Humidification Filter. A unique alternative to bulky water based humidifiers, HME Filters capture heat and moisture from your sleep therapy air and exhalations, preserving and increasing humidity to prevent your airways from drying out during therapy. In addition the Z1 Auto is compatible with external heated humidifiers like the HC150 from Fisher & Paykel.

nitelog cpap data app

Do you need to track your sleep therapy progress for your job, your doctor or just for your own peace of mind? Download the Nitelog app from the iTunes App Store and have all of the sleep data from you Z1 Auto available at your fingertips. Nitelog uses the Z1 Auto's built-in Bluetooth chip to sync your data wirelessly so it is very simple to set up and use. Nitelog also enables sharing by email so that you can easily send your data to your doctor.

The Z1 Auto APAP comes complete with a Universal Tube Adapter and a 48 inch slim tube. If you prefer longer tubing or performance tubing it can be used with that too; and it will work with any CPAP mask on the market so choose your favorite... don't worry it IS compatible!

One of the most unique features of the Z1 Travel CPAP is the ability to upgrade the machine's operating system -- to implement performance refinements, add new features, or update capabilities -- with a home computer connected to the internet and a USB Cable. Remote upgrades are a great way to ensure your Z1 is always performing at its best. Download the Latest Z1 Firmware Upgrade

  • Does the Z1 have a pressure relief function?
Yes. The Z1 uses an advanced pressure relief algorithm called Z-Breathe. Z-Breathe has three settings: CPAP-1 for mild relief, CPAP-2 for moderate relief, and CPAP-3 for maximum relief. Z-Breathe will also learn your breathing pattern and adjust the pressure swing accordingly to suit your needs.
    1. CPAP-1 - Enables Z-Breathe at a gentle response rate that adjusts the airflow gradually during the inhalation-exhalation cycle. In this setting, the algorithm will initially adjust rapidly to breathing, but the adjustments will become gentle and gradual over time.
    2. CPAP-2 - This is the default Z-Breathe setting offering moderate pressure swing relief.
    3. CPAP-3 - Z-Breathe's maximum CPAP-3 setting offers an aggressive response rate which adjusts the airflow rapidly and aggressively during the inhalation-exhalation cycle.
To change the Z-Breathe Algorithm setting: The unit must be in Standby Mode (pressure of "0.0" indicated on the display). Hold down both the up and down arrow buttons at the same time until you see CPAP-1, CPAP-2 or CPAP-3 flashing on the display. Press the up or down arrow buttons until you observe your desired setting on the display. To lock-in the setting, hold down the Start/Stop button until the "CPAP - X" indicator no longer flashes.

  • How should I clean my Z1?
Please refer to the owners manual for complete instructions, but typically you would wipe down the outside of your Z1 with a damp cloth on a weekly basis. NOTE: Never submerge the Z1 in water.

  • Does my battery charge when the AC Adapter is plugged into the PowerShell and wall outlet?
Yes, but only when the Z1™ is in ‘standby mode - meaning when the device is plugged in but NOT in use/ being used for therapy. When your battery has a full charge it will be displayed on the Z1 LCD screen.

  • When the display says "REMINDER" what does that mean?
REMINDER is telling you to connect the tubing to the Z1 Outlet Coupler on the proximal end and your CPAP mask on the to the distal end of the tube to initiate therapy.

  • Can I use my Z1 on the Airplane?
Yes, the Z1 has met all of the FAA requirements for in-flight use. There is a reference regarding this in the Z1 User Manual. There is also a downloadable version of the FAA Compliance letter, available on this page, that is useful when taking your Z1 on a commercial flight. NOTE: Even though the FAA has cleared the Z1 for in-flight use, airlines often request that you let them know in advance of your plans to use cpap in-flight. Please contact your airline for more information.

  • How often should I change my filter?
For best performance, filters should be changed on average every 2 weeks.

  • Where is the best place to mount my Z1?
This is a good question however it depends on your personal preference. Some users simply set the Z1 on their nightstand since it takes less space than a box of tissue. Others prefer to use the PowerShell's lanyard to hang the Z1 over their headboard. The best place to mount the Z1 is wherever it feels comfortable for you.

  • Is there a humidifier available for the Z1?
Currently HDM offers Heat Moisture Exchanger (HME) units for humidification. Additionally, you may use an external heated humidifier such as the Fisher & Paykel HC150. (Available elsewhere on this site.)

  • Is the Z1 always on?
The Z1 switches to standby mode when you plug in to a power source (either the PowerShell with Battery or the AC Power Adaptor). To start therapy push the power button once and to stop push the power button again. To completely turn off the Z1 simply remove the power source.

  • My Z1 will not turn on. What's wrong?
Problems with powering the Z1 are typically related to the power adapter or the battery not being seated properly in the PowerShell.
    1. Power Adapter - If you are attempting to power the Z1 device with the power adapter try the following: Fully remove the power adapter and inspect both the adapter and the plug hole for obstructions. If no obstructions If no obstructions are found firmly re-insert the plug into the Z1 using a twisting motion and restart the Z1.
    2. PowerShell Battery Power - If you are attempting to power the device using the PowerShell's battery, fully remove the battery module and inspect both the battery module and the contacts inside of the PowerShell for obstructions. If no obstructions are found, firmly re-insert the battery module into the PowerShell and restart the Z1.

  • There is a Fault or Reminder display on the Z1 LCD.
The 'Reminder' text will be displayed when the Z1 detects a leak situation while in use. It serves as a reminder to firmly insert the Hose Adapter into the Z1 (the most common location for pressure leaks).

  • haven't tried it yet but excited

I just got the machine and anxious to try it and love the size having used one for 30 years.Hope to use it this weekend All of the ones i have used in the past are as large as a bread box

  • Excellent travel device but disappointingly noisy

This device aces the criteria for convenience and portability. And the base unit itself is externally quiet. So my wife does not hear the unit. But the air rushing into my mask--I've tried a few different tubes and masks--is much louder than with any other machine in my 14 years of successful therapy. (By comparison, my non-portable ResMed AirSense 10 with a DreamWear mask is virtually silent.) This is going to take some effort to ignore the noise. Not what I expected. Very disappointing.

  • Good product, Great retailer

I read reviews that talked about a loud device. Although slightly higher level than my home machine, hardly an issue. I use a Phillips dreamwear nasal cushion mask which may or may not help reduce the noise level. But either way, its a very good product, and most of all, it is easy to carry with me when I travel, and store away in the hotel nightstand in the morning. Directmedical.com - Great customer service. Although It wasn't urgent that I receive my product before my next trip, I indicated that it would be helpful. I was contacted by email, and when my transaction went through, was sent another email indicating that they were upgrading my shipment to arrive the next morning. Unexpected. Exceeded my expectations. Thank you!

  • Great Product

I used this 3 nights in a row and it was great. The hose that came with this was too short for me so I put on a longer hose and it was fine. That HME filter worked too. This is strictly for my traveling. I haven't traveled anywhere yet but I'll be ready!

  • Small, flexible sleep help

I have been using a CPAP since 2003, and have travelled with it, on business and for pleasure. Even though I can take it on an airplane with no issues since it is a medical device, my normal machine is bulky. And I try not to sleep on planes, because I do not want to wake others with my snoring. What a nice surprise to find a machine that is not only small, but able to be used on a plane. No more needing to keep awake on long trans-oceanic flights. It's space saving size allows taking it to a hotel with a small night table. Something I've been waiting for without even knowing I was. It's quiet, as quiet as my REMstar System One. Thank you for the flexibility to use my CPAP therapy wherever I need it.

  • Great little APAP for travel

The Z1 APAP machine is a small and light machine. Even with the battery, it was small enough to put in carry on bag for travel. It is quiet - about 26db, which is the same as a Respironics APAP.

I think I will be very happy with my machine if I can ever figure out how to use it. I have charged the battery so that is not a problem. I have tried to use it plugged in but I cannot figure out to set the amount of pressure. I thought with this machine it was suppose t o adjust automatically

  • Love this Even over Z-1CPAP

This little dynamite keeps me sleeping better than any of the 5 other CPAPs. Helped along by the new Dream Wear mask, which is the best I've ever had. So I think I'm all good for the rest of my life as long as it lasts that long or I can replace it. Someone mentioned being noisy; you can cover the hose with a 'sock' that you can make or buy that just slips over the hose. It really quiets it down. FYI, this is self adjusting, and I was a bit concerned. The first time I used it, I turned on the light to read it in the morning, and it read my usual pressure!

  • Z1 Travel CPAP

The ordering process was simple and breeze. My order arrived very quickly and everything was packaged nicely. I immediately traveled with the Z1 which is very easy to use and program. I ordered a compatible heated humidifier with it also just in case the inline humidifier did not work as well as I liked which was the case. Well, I should say, it worked as it should but not to my comfort level. If you need the heated humidifier for your comfort, you may as well travel with your regular CPAP. The Z1 does allow you to nap well in the car during a road trip so you feel rested after your nap.

  • Travel Z1

Very happy with my purchase. Even though the insurance doesn't pay for it, it's worth the investment especially if you are a traveler. Whether local or far away, the Z1 is truly a winner!!!

  • Z1 APAP Review

Very compact and convenient. Much noisier than my Res Med home unit but once you get used to it there is no problem falling asleep. Battery lasted only 6 hours the first use after supposedly fully being charged. Overall very happy with the purchase as I travel a lot internationally and it is much more convenient than lugging the Res Med 10 as an extra carry-on domestically or in checked luggage to some international destinations where they do not honor it being allowed as a separate carry on.

  • Z1

Poor air Flow Volumes. Air is dry. Noisy, but not the major problem. Plan to wait for ResMed and Phillips products.

  • Just as advertised

This little device is amazing. It does the same work as my older huge device in a compact little design. There was almost no adjustment period and the HME does a good job of replicating my humidifier. Overall a good product.

  • Small but noisy

I purchased the Z1 for travel to supplement my Dreamstation for use at home. I am amazed at how small and light the unit is but it is extremely noisy. Not noise from the machine, it doesn't disturb others in the room. The noise is transmitted by the air in the tube and is like a loud white sound machine living within your head. The muffler, which is an optional extra now, lowers the noise to acceptable levels but the muffler is huge and heavy, probably half the size of the Z1. The unit with muffler, gel mask and 6 ft 15mm tubing won't fit in the soft carry bag. I would up my rating to 5 stars if they could make the muffler smaller and include it with the Z1 as noise reduction is a necessity.

  • Excellent travel machine

So much smaller than my Dreamstation. This machine is perfect for travel. Pressure was good, no problems so far

  • covenient but very dry

it is a very cool machine, a little loud and even with the humidifier in it significantly drys my nose.

  • Just ok.

Great size. Super easy to travel with and set up. But really noisy on the inhale and or exhale, to the point it's hard to get to sleep and the stay asleep.

  • Z1 is Excellent!

Excellent product! It is so nice to see something designed & manufactured in the USA. I've been using CPAP for over 15 years, have tried 3 different machines and the Z1 is just light years ahead of anything else on the market. For people that travel and have to go through the horrible TSA security, this is so small it makes it so much simpler. As far as the comments about the sound, the machine is almost totally silent! The only sound is a little noise in the tube, but the website doesn't seem to tell you that they now include a muffler. If someone think this is too loud, they must have another issue because this is so quiet it is ridiculous.

  • Great Travel item

I wanted something I could pack in a back pack and carry on without being bulky. the Z1 does that plus being quiet using the supplied muffler. I didn't notice any difference between my regular full size machine with humidifier and this product.

  • Z1 review !

I find it is not as quiet as you say it is !!! It is taking me some time to get use to the high pitch whine sound that it has ! Makes it difficult to fall asleep !! Sounds like the whine of a vacuum sweeper !!!

  • Yes!

What a great little travel APAP. I tried it out last night and loved it. I won't use it every night because, while the HME is very cool and works, I like the water tank better. But I didn't wake up with a crushing headache like I do when I forget to add water to the humidifier. So my very big #1 concern and question was answered. The Z1 is noisier than my full size (and silent) Res-Med but it didn't cause me or my husband to wake up. And it's incredibly small and light. I can't wait until my next short trip to take the Z1 with me and it'll take no room in my bag. My mission is complete!!!

  • Perfect for Travel

We got the Z1 Mini CPAP for a recent trip to Glasgow. The battery pack worked great on the plane, especially with the extra leg room seats on United (the only airline that flies direct from NY). It's the first time I've ever wished the flight was longer. Since we've been here I've used it every night but one and have been very happy with it. We're near the coast so I haven't been using the humidifier adapters, but I will try that when I get back to the US. Overall it's an A+ for me.

  • Sooo much better than my CPAPasaurus!

Purchased this unit as I was tired of lugging my old Resmed cement block when I traveled. This unit is light [about the weight of a full can of soda] and compact. TSA was curious as had not seen many - got a chance to brag about it's portability. As for function, easy set up and pressure adjustment, [super customer services if needed], is a bit noisier than my other - but acceptable trade off for getting rid of extra size and weight of my old unit. Provides good pressure with no complaints. I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone who travels.

  • Unhappy with noise

I bought the Z1 Auto in April 2015 thinking it would solve my travel and camping problems. I have tried it in the CPAP-3 (which is appropriate for me) and am very annoyed by the exhale whine noise as well as the general tube noise. I have been very busy with family and work, so I have not had the time to address this issue sooner. I see customer comments on your website that these are issues for many of your customers and that you are working on an add on solution, but it is not yet available. I can't understand why you would release this for sale before resolving these problems.

  • Noisy noisy noisy

Believe the reviewers who say this little machine is noisy. Loud whooshing heard thrpugh the hose transmits directly into your head. No wat to muffle it. I'm using a loud fan to mask it, but still find it hard to sleep due to hearing every breath. The unit is incredibly small and light. And air delivery feels adequate. But I will only use it while traveling due to noise.

  • Great travel CPAP

I just purchased the Z1 for a trip because my Phillips was so bulky and heavy. The Z1 was so compact, and I purchased the power pack but decided I didn't need it on this trip so I left it at home. I tried out the Z1 the night before we left and it performed very well, but I must admit, it was noisier than my Phillips unit. The unit itself wasn't noisy, it had a lot of air noise that made me decide to wear earplugs. My husband remarked that it was noisier, but it didn't disrupt his sleep, (and he's a very light sleeper). I would purchase it again, and look forward to using it on a longer European trip later this year.

  • Auto Z1

I have only used the Z1 one nite in preparation for a month vacation. I did not install the humidifier part because I didn't want to waste it. This will not be an accurate review until the end of my month away. I used the narrow hose and should have used the larger one as I had a hard time getting enough air, I wonder if this will take some time to get use to not sure, I will update upon my return.
