Description

THE PROVEN CPAP ALTERNATIVE
Are you looking for an alternative to CPAP therapy, having trouble staying compliant, or not currently treating your OSA at all? If so then simple, disposable, convenient Provent Sleep Apnea Therapy may be your dream come true!

SIMPLE & EFFECTIVE OSA THERAPY
Provent Sleep Apnea Therapy is clinically proven across all levels of Obstructive Sleep Apnea -- mild, moderate and severe. Provent Therapy works much like CPAP, except instead of a bulky machine with tubing and a mask, your own breathing creates the pressure that keeps your airway open.

Each night before bed Provent patches are applied directly to the nostrils. As you breathe in Provent's proprietary MicroValves open so inhalation feels normal and is nearly unobstructed. As you breathe out Provent's MicroValves close, restricting airflow and creating resistance known as Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure (EPAP). This EPAP is how Provent works, keeping your airway open and enabling natural airflow while you sleep.

proven powerful portable cpap alternative

FDA CLEARED & AMERICAN MADE
Proudly made in the USA, Provent is the only product of its kind cleared for the treatment of OSA; and it is available by prescription only. A standard CPAP or BiPAP prescription is not valid for the purchase of Provent. Provent prescriptions must state "Provent" or "EPAP Therapy" or something similar. Click here to download a Provent Prescription Form to bring to your doctor.

IDEAL FOR HOME & TRAVEL
Provent devices are small enough to slip into a purse or pocket, making Provent Therapy ideal for travel, but they're comfortable and effective too so they're great at home. Provent Therapy does not require a machine or make noise so you and your partner can sleep better together. And Provent devices do not require electricity, giving you the freedom to sleep anytime, anywhere. Provent Therapy is simple, comfortable, and maintenance-free; you use a fresh set of devices every night and simply throw away the used set each morning.

GETTING STARTED WITH PROVENT THERAPY
Though it seems simple, there are a few things to know before you start Provent Therapy to ensure you have the best experience. The instructional video below will walk you through how to apply the Provent Device correctly and provide you tips to adjust to wearing it. Provent may feel uncomfortable at first or you may hear vibrations when you talk. You will feel resistance to breathing out through your nose. This is normal and it is how Provent Therapy works. We suggest you put Provent on right before you plan on falling asleep. Incorporate it into your routine. Give your self time to adjust to Provent and it'll be worth it.

^faqs~
  • What is Provent Therapy?
Provent Therapy is a simple, non-invasive treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The Provent Nasal Device uses a valve design that attaches over the nostrils and is secured in place with hypoallergenic adhesive. The valve opens and closes, redirecting air through small holes to create resistance when breathing out. Because Provent Therapy is a small, single use, disposable device, it's also discreet and very convenient.

  • What is EPAP
Provent Therapy utilizes a proprietary MicroValve technology developed by Ventus Medical. The device attaches over the nostrils with a hypoallergenic adhesive. During inhalation, the valve opens, allowing the user to breathe in freely. When exhaling, the valve closes and air passing through the nose is directed through two small air channels. This increases the pressure in the airway (called EPAP or expiratory positive airway pressure), maintains pressure and helps to keep the airway open until the start of the next inhalation.

  • Is Provent Therapy Right for Me?
Provent Therapy may not be appropriate for everyone. If you have been diagnosed with OSA and are considering Provent Therapy, you should speak to your physician to evaluate your individual medical needs.

  • How is Provent different from Theravent?
Provent and Theravent devices both use patented EPAP (Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure) technology; however overall design and resistance levels of each product are different. Theravent patches fit over the base of the nose, covering both nostrils during sleep, and their relatively wide MicroValve mesh is designed to help eliminate snoring. Provent patches are smaller, with one patch for each nostril, and have a tighter MicroValve mesh that provides the greater resistance required to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

  • How does the resistance level of Provent compare to Theravent?
    • Theravent LITE = Half the resistance of Theravent Regular
    • Theravent Regular = Half the resistance of Theravent MAX
    • Theravent MAX = Half the resistance of regular Provent
    • Provent Phase 1 = Roughly equivalent to Theravent Regular
    • Provent Phase 2 = Roughly equivalent to Theravent MAX
    • Provent Phase 3 (Regular Provent) = Full therapeutic level

  • Does Provent Therapy Stop Snoring?
Clinical studies have shown that 83% of patients experienced a snoring reduction with Provent Therapy. Among OSA patients that snore, Provent Therapy virtually eliminated snoring in 58% of patients.

  • Why is it Important to Treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea?
There is no cure for obstructive sleep apnea. Untreated OSA has a number of potential serious side effects. These include excessive daytime sleepiness, increased risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, depression, increased risk or worsening of heart failure, and increased likelihood of driving or work-related accidents.

  • How is Provent Therapy Different from CPAP Therapy?
Constant Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) increases the pressure on both inhalation and exhalation. Provent Therapy increases the pressure on exhalation only. CPAP increases pressure in the airway using forced air, while Provent Therapy uses the patient's own breathing to create pressure during exhalation.

  • Can Provent Therapy Replace my CPAP Machine?
If you are not using your CPAP machine all night, every night then ask your physician about non-CPAP alternatives including Provent Therapy. Only you and your physician can decide what therapy is best for you. For help speaking to your doctor download the Provent Therapy Physician's Information Guide (PDF).

  • Can I Use Provent if I'm a Mouth Breather?
As with CPAP therapy, Provent Therapy users who may be mouth breathing during sleep may benefit from the use of a chinstrap.

  • Can I Use This Device with my CPAP?
Provent Therapy cannot be used together with a CPAP machine, but some users find that it's more convenient to use Provent when traveling and CPAP when at home.

  • How Do I Talk to my Doctor About Provent Therapy?
If you are interested in speaking to your doctor about Provent Therapy, download our Provent Therapy Physician's Information Guide from the literature section of this page.

  • What can I expect from my initial experience with Provent?
After you apply the Provent Device, you should notice the resistance created as you try to exhale. Generally, users get used to this feeling after wearing for several nights. For tips on how to breathe and how you will feel download the "Provent Therapy Tips For Success" Brochure available on this page.

  • Will Provent Therapy work for me?
Provent Therapy does not work for everyone. In recent clinical studies, 72% of obstructive sleep apnea sufferers were successfully treated by Provent Therapy. Contact your physician to see if Provent is right for you.

  • Is Provent Therapy safe?
Yes, Provent Therapy can be used safely. In recent clinical studies, no severe, device-related adverse events were reported. Read the Provent Therapy Instructions for Use located elsewhere on this page for a complete list of warnings, precautions and contraindications.

  • Can Provent Therapy be used in children?
No, the safety and effectiveness of Provent Therapy in children under the age of 18 has not been established.

  • Is Provent Therapy covered by my insurance?
As Provent Therapy is relatively new, it may not be covered by all insurance plans or prescription programs. In many cases, tax-free, flexible spending accounts may be used to cover the cost of Provent Therapy. If you have concerns about whether Provent will be covered, contact your healthcare provider prior to placing your order to be sure.

  • Good sleep apnea therapy without mask

Once you get used to Provent, which doesn't take long, it's an easy way to help control sleep apnea and snoring without a CPAP. You place a Provent strip over your nostrils right before you go to bed and it helps force air back into your throat when you breathe out - when your throat is more open, you don't snore.

Great device compared to CPAP. Only problem is they don't always stick all night.

  • Power of Provent

The agents are always willing to find out prices for different amounts of boxes & always manage to find a coupon. They are friendly & efficient & it never takes more than a few days to receive my order. I'm very happy with Direct Home Medical & plan to continue using them for my Provent orders, which I like using so much better than my old Cpapp machine (although if your sleep apnea is severe you aren't a candidate for Provent).

  • Provent

The Provent works well most of the time. However I find it VERY EXPENSIVE. It would be nice if insurance would cover this.

  • Marginal

I have very mild APNEA: I've used the sterling solution of a CPAP. Found it too intrusive [like wearing SCUBA gear] then went to a MyTAP/MAD device, but the latter was almost like not having it on: only stopped my urination and snoring but not my APNEA problems. Dr suggested the PROVENT and I found/find the design VERY comfortable, non-intrusive, very clever BUT HIGHLY expensive. MyTAP/MAD and/or the CPAP is a one-time co-pay for me of a few hundred dollars, but the PROVENT is $/day Forever, with zero copay. I know, it's a local KAISER thing that makes no sense, but it's also a marginal device. While it creates the necessary back pressure it does not stop snoring or urination at night where the others did. I do not feel as rested, just more comfortable in its use. The back pressure does not engage UNTIL you have started to snore. My wife has made these observations. As for the urination: that was never a problem with the others. I don't see this as sustainable in any situation moving fwd. To those lucky to have five-star success, I only wish.

  • Snoring fixed

I am a female with snoring issues, so says my husband. I hated to think of wearing the "darth vadar" mask, it just wasn't what I wanted so I looked into several on-line items that would curb my snoring. I was skeptical of this product but it works wonders. No more snoring. It took a bit of time to get used to wearing it but now it feels rather normal. My mouth gets very dry at night but otherwise, I think I'm sleeping well. thank you

  • Works well for mild to mod sleep apnea

My husband has mild-moderate sleep apnea and would not wear a machine. These have been great for him! It takes a little time to get used to though. When he forgets to put them on I can hear him snoring and having apnea. Now when he wakes up he is rested and he doesn't fall asleep in the middle of the day. These were life-changing for him!

  • These are great

I endured a C-PAP years ago, then underwent oral surgery with only partial response. The PROVENT works best! And no machinery to schlog around when travelling, no equipment cleaning. This simple device is easy to use and travel with. I'm thrilled my doctor recommended it.

  • Sleep Better!

Being a women I found that I had to put the patches on before creaming my face at night, as they would not stick to you cause of the creaming near the area where the taping would attach to your skin. Once I had that down it took a few nights to get use to having them on, but when they are on you do sleep and feel refreshed in the morning, they are better than the masks, however they do work for me as I was told that I had a mild case of Sleep Apnea.

  • Adhesion difficulties and sleep interuption

I have been diagnosed with moderate to severe sleep apnea. I can not speak to the medical utility of this product, as I am not a physician and have no means of evaluating the medical efficacy. I find it difficult to adhere the Provent valves. Adhering them as suggested does not work for me, so I developed my own method empirically. I have a mustache, so I first wash the area with soap and water, and then shave and dry it. Even though I have dry skin, I wash the area again with isopropanol, and again dry it. After careful placement of the Provent valves, I then add a "tic-tac-toe" of waterproof tape on and around the device, being careful not to cover any of the screen. I then check for leaks, and add more tape if necessary. The device has changed my sleep patterns. Since using them, I typically wake between 2-5AM, and have difficulties returning to sleep. After reading for an hour or so, I can usually get back to sleep. I first started treatment for sleep apnea with a CPAP device, but found that it caused more difficulties for me than it could solve. I can manage the requirements I find necessary to used Provent, though I do wish that they were easier to apply.

  • Helpful but not a panacea

This Provent therapy does help with controlling air flow in sleep apnea. One major shortcoming is that it cannot be used or must be removed when one has nasal allergies or something else that causes the nostrils to 'drip,' or when sneezing occurs. Another problem is that they are difficult to line up exactly with the slant of nostrils, even with a mirror. This would be much easier if the nude color adhesive surrounding the valve was instead transparent. One could then see the nostrils better and orient the Provent more effectively. This would also be color-neutral, since I am sure that people of many ethnicities and skin tones use these. Finally, I would really like a version that was impregnated with menthol to make breathing easier, when one has a stuffy nose. Sadly, these very expensive items are not as yet covered by Medicare and the company does not seem to be doing anything about this. Sometimes more than one is needed during a night, as they cannot be securely put back in place after removal for whatever reason.

  • Great Stuff

This is a great product that far exceeds CPAP - puts it to shame actually. I could not tolerate CPAP due to allergies and mild asthma. The provent works fantastic. I had little-no adjustment period and am very comfortable with the ease of wearing these.

  • Provent

A simple looking device which can change your life! There is no comparison between Provent and the usual air tube/pump arrangement typically used for treating sleep apnea. Provent is easy to use, does not restrict movement (or even reading in bed!!), and poses no problem when traveling. I'd rather NOT have apnea, but since I do, there's nothing else I'll ever use for it.

This product is the best thing since sliced bread! There are no hoses, wires or masks to interfere with sleep. It is so much more natural--like breathing!

  • Provent experience

From the first nights use of the Provent strips, my snoring and apnea ceased, according to my wife! I of course was asleep. She had no idea how much she was used to being aware of my snoring/apnea until it abruptly ceased and she found herself waking frequently because I was so quiet. She kept checking to see if I was still breathing, when using Provent. I was and am. I have put out a rack of your promotional material in my waiting room, to help other patients. My one recomd. would be different size patches for those of us with a big nose. I end up using extra tape to get a full seal. If the seal isn't complete, it doesn't work. I have damaged and thrown away new strips that I couldn't get the proper seal with, until I started using extra tape.

  • Provent snoring relief

This product works well and has reduced my snoring so that my wife says it is no longer an issue. While sometimes slightly uncomfortable in the middle of the night it beats using a mask. Cost per day reasonable for what it provides. If my wife is happy with this product then so am I. It only takes a few nights to get used to breathing through your mouth when you go to sleep. Some dry mouth issues are solved with a glass of water at bedside. People with snoring issues will be happy they bought this product. It actually works.

  • Very expensive, but a help for patients who are not CPAP compliant

This product is expensive. Even though it was first introduced in 2008 it is still only available from one company on line and as such is not covered by insurance. It is effective in eliminating snoring and does provide me with a better quality of sleep. I tried CPAP for over a year, but could not adjust to it. I haveI found Provent to be an effective alternative, and am just thankful I can afford it.

  • A new way to sleep

Provent nasal pads for sleep apnea make sleeping so much more pleasant - no machine, no mask, and especially, no tubing. Now, to make more accessible to more people, please lower the price!
