Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure Machines (BiLevel or BiPAP) are used to treat many forms of Sleep Apnea and are often prescribed to people who have trouble with standard CPAP therapy. BiLevels provide a more natural breathing experience by delivering two levels of pressure: a high pressure during inhalation and a low pressure during exhalation. Some BiLevels include a backup rate (usually called ST or Spontaneous Timed) that initiates a breath if none is detected within a specific time period.
