HOW PROVENT THERAPY WORKS
Provent Therapy works much like CPAP therapy, except instead of an external machine, your own breathing creates the pressure that keeps your airway open.
The Provent Nasal Device fits over both nostrils and uses a proprietary MicroValve design that creates pressure which keeps the airway open. As you inhale, airflow is nearly unobstructed, allowing for normal breathing. As you exhale, the MicroValve closes, directing air through small air channels, increasing resistance. This resistance creates EPAP (Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure), which props open the airway until you inhale again.
Like CPAP, Provent nasal devices need to be worn every night to effectively relieve symptoms of OSA. It may take time before you start to feel like you’re sleeping normally and waking up refreshed.
For many patients, the Provent Device is an effective treatment for OSA while allowing them more freedom to travel, enjoy their sleep partner, and live their lives. GETTING STARTED WITH PROVENT THERAPY

It may feel uncomfortable at first or you may hear vibration when you talk. You will feel resistance to breathing out through your nose. This is normal and is how Provent Therapy works. - What is Provent Therapy?
Provent Therapy is a simple, non-invasive treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). - What is EPAP
Provent Therapy utilizes a proprietary MicroValve technology developed by Ventus Medical. The device attaches over the nostrils with a hypoallergenic adhesive. During inhalation, the valve opens, allowing the user to breathe in freely. When exhaling, the valve closes and air passing through the nose is directed through two small air channels. This increases the pressure in the airway (called EPAP or expiratory positive airway pressure), maintains pressure and helps to keep the airway open until the start of the next inhalation.

- Does Provent Therapy Stop Snoring?

- Why is it Important to Treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea?

- How is Provent Therapy Different from CPAP Therapy?
Constant Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) increases the pressure on both inhalation and exhalation. Provent Therapy increases the pressure on exhalation only. CPAP increases pressure in the airway using forced air, while Provent Therapy uses the patient's own breathing to create pressure during exhalation.
- Can Provent Therapy Replace my CPAP Machine?
If you are not using your CPAP machine all night, every night then ask your physician about non-CPAP alternatives including Provent Therapy. - Can I Travel with Provent Therapy?
Because of its small, simple design, traveling is easy with Provent Therapy. Some users find they prefer to use CPAP at home and Provent Therapy, for convenience, when they travel. Each night's set is individually pouched. There is no need for electricity or equipment, and the device is discarded after single-use.
- Can I Use This Device with my CPAP?
Provent Therapy cannot be used together with a CPAP machine, but some users find that it's more convenient to use Provent when traveling and CPAP when at home.

My doctor was skeptical of how effective this product would be for my severe sleep apnea, but I convinced him to let me try it. It's fantastic! My husband and I just returned from a 10-day vacation and we slept in the same bed for the first time in months. He said he never heard me snore, I slept well and had a great getaway. I would recommend Provent to anyone. It takes at least a week to really get used to it, but I am absolutely sold and am thrilled that I've found an affective alternative to CPAP therapy. The device works great if you use it correctly and follow directions. If you put it on wrong and some air leaks out, usually under the nose, the device works poorly and the product gets a bad rap. You can feel if it leaks by blowing out hard through your nose.When I mess it up I cut off a end of of a good band aid and tape it under my nose. Reviewed by: Larry , S/W Missouri
